Personal Life (Early/recent)

The Xander Rice story begins in Los Angeles, California, where he was born into a family steeped in athletic tradition. His parents gave birth to him on January 3,  2001.

Xander’s father, King Rice, was a McDonald’s All-American and standout player at the University of North Carolina. The old man later became a successful coach. His mom, Summer, also played volleyball at UNC. This influence instilled in Xander a deep-seated love for sports and a drive for excellence.

Xander’s formal introduction to basketball came at the prestigious St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. He played for two years under the tutelage of the legendary coach, Bob Hurley.

This was a formative period for him, as he learned from one of the best in the business. He began developing his skills under the intense pressure of a highly competitive environment.

In 2017, Xander faced a change when St. Anthony closed its doors. However, he transitioned to Mater Dei Prep and then to The Patrick School. This is another basketball powerhouse that has nurtured the talents of stars like Kyrie Irving.

At The Patrick School, Xander blossomed into a second-team all-section selection. Averaging over 800 points in his three seasons and demonstrating his ability to lead and score.

Career

Beyond high school, Xander Rice further solidified his reputation as a rising star on the AAU circuit. Playing for the We R 1 team, he displayed his shooting skills and basketball IQ, attracting the attention of colleges all over the country.

In 2019, he embarked on the next chapter of his journey at Bucknell University. Over the next two seasons, Xander’s role at Bucknell grew steadily. He became a reliable starter, averaging double-digit points and showcasing his improved shooting range.

During his senior year, he averaged 14.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. This solidified his position as a leading scorer and facilitator on the team. He also earned recognition as a Third Team All-Patriot League selection, a testament to his hard work and dedication.

This year, Xander made a significant decision that brought him closer to his family and roots. He announced his transfer to Monmouth University, where his father, King Rice, is the head coach. This marked a homecoming as he joined the program that his father had built.

Xander’s life is more than just basketball; he is a dedicated student who obtained a degree in psychology at Bucknell. Right now, he’s pursuing a master’s degree in communication at Monmouth.
