Who is Sharon Ooja?

Sharon Ooja Egwurube is a multi-talented model, host, actress, and humanitarian. She came into the limelight when she played ‘Shalewa’ in the Ndani TV series ‘Skinny Girl in Transit.’

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Sharon Ooja is one of the four daughters of Mr and Mrs Ooja Egwurube. The model and actress was born in Kaduna on April 6, 1991, and raised in Plateau state.

She describes herself as a pure Northern girl from the Idoma tribe of Benue, a Middle-Belt State in Nigeria. Her mother motivated her into acting, as she was in the entertainment industry. Her dad is her cheerleader, watching and commending her on her interviews and TV shows.

Sharon completed her primary education at Kings and Queens School, Jos. Afterward, she attended Regina Pacis Secondary School in Abuja, and St. Louis Girls’ College, Jos.

She then obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Houdegbe North American University in Cotonou, Benin.

Career as a Nollywood Actress

Sharon Ooja had a brief job at a Real estate firm before her first acting role in ‘Gidi Up’.

Unlike most of her peers, her appearance as an onscreen actress was unplanned. She was going about her modeling job during a photo shoot for a store that eventfully had Ndani TV handling their behind-the-scenes sessions. As a result of the way she executed her shoot, she was invited for an interview. Later, she was asked to play a role in ‘Gidi Up,’ a show by Ndani TV.

In 2016, Ndani TV put up another show ‘Skinny Girl in Transit,’ she acted as ‘Shalewa,’ bringing her to the limelight as her exceptional performance grabbed hearts and stole attention.

While her role in ‘Skinny Girl in Transit’ endeared her to many, she thinks ‘Òlòtūré’ is a significant progress for her acting career because it challenged her to step out of her stereotyped comfort zone into a new and unusual character for her personality.

Sharon Ooja has starred in several movies, including From Lagos with Love, Moms at War, Lara and the Beat, King of Boys, Bling Lagosians, Òlòtūré, Coming From Insanity, Who’s the Boss, Bad comments, Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards, and Still Falling.

She co-hosted the Red Carpet of GT Bank’s Fashion Week with Timini Egbuson in 2017
