Who Is Odunlade Adekola?

Odunlade Jonathan Adekola, popularly known as Odunlade Adekola, is a BIG name in the Nigerian film industry. He is a versatile Nollywood actor, film producer, director, and singer.

Odunlade is best known for his acting roles in several Yoruba movies: Saamu Alajo, Alani Pamolekun, Ahamo, Oyenusi, Mufu Oloosha Oko, Adebayo Aremu Abere, Odaju, and Sunday Dagboru. He rose to stardom for playing the lead role in Asiri Gomina Wa, a 2003 movie produced by Ishola Durojaye.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Odunlade Adekola is a native of Otun Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, born in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Odunlade’s younger brother, Jethro Oyekanmi Adekola also works in the Nigerian entertainment industry and owns a few businesses. These include a clothing and film editing company. He edits most of his brother’s movies, including the Saamu Alajo YouTube and TV comedy series.

Their parents, Pastor N.A. and Deaconess Adekola, worked as ministers in charge of a Christ Apostolic Church in Abeokuta, until his father retired in 2022.

Odunlade Adekola grew up in Abeokuta, where he attended St John’s Primary School, St. Peter’s College, and Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY). He earned a diploma certificate at MAPOLY and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UNILAG in 2018.

As regards his marital status, Odunlade has been married to his wife, Ruth Adekola, since 2003. The duo have five children together, against Ruth’s popular name as Mummy D4, for giving her children names starting with the letter ‘D’ as of when she had four kids.


Odunlade joined the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts practitioners in 1996, and started acting that same year. Over the years, he has scripted, starred, produced, and directed many films, the majority of them are his own.

These include Emi Nire Kan (2009), Ile Afoju (2019), Mufu Olosa Oko (2013), Oyenusi (2014), Monday Omo Adugbo (2010), Saamu Alajo (2017), and Shola Arikusa.

As a musician, Odunlade sang the song “Omo Baba”, which is a Gospel-like song. He also records the soundtrack for most of his movies.

Odunlade Adekola has been the brand ambassador for several brands, including Ayoola Foods, RevolutionPlus Property Development Company, and Globacom Telecommunications, and Goldberg.

He also owns Odunlade Adekola Film Production (OAFP), and is its founder.
