Who Is Naira Marley?

Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter renowned for his Afrobeats and hip hop music. He possesses British-Nigerian nationality.

Naira Marley sings in English, Pidgin and Yoruba. His stage name is the Nigerian version of the Jamaican singer Bob Marley, whom was his role model. His dreadlocks are also alike.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Naira Marley was born in Nigeria, and subsequently moved to Peckham, South London, England, when he was 11. He attended Peckham Academy, where he had a distinction in Business. Afterward, he studied Business Law at Christ the King Sixth Form College (formerly Crossways College).

He aspired to become a voiceover artist and MC while growing up, until he discovered his passion for music.

As you may never expect, Naira Marley is married with two wives. He has four kids, including a twin. His first son, Farouq Fashola was born on October 30, 2015, while the second one was born on April 7, 2018.

His two daughters are twins: Aishat and Simiat, (April 21, 2015). Naira Marley’s children are British citizens, and they live with their respective mothers in the United Kingdom. There is limited information about his wives, and even their names are unknown.

Career – From The Starting In 2014

Naira Marley started singing in 2014, following encouragement by friends to pursue his musical career. He dropped his debut track, Marry Juana, featuring Max Twigz, in 2014. That same year, he released “Gotta Dance EP”.

His song, Issa Goal, featuring Olamide and Lil Kesh (released in December 2017), was the Nigerian Super Eagles’ theme song at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Its remix was released on June 16, 2018, featuring more artists like Simi, Falz, and Slimcase.

Other singles released by Naira Marley include Kosi Werey (2016), Japa (2018), Soapy (2019), Am I A Yahoo Boy (2019), amongst others.

Naira Marley owns two record labels: Marlian Records (Nigeria) and MOVES Recordings (UK). Zinoleesky, CBlack, Fabian Blu, Tori Keeche, and Vusic are currently signed to Marlian Records.

Mohbad was also an artist under the Marlian Records until he left in 2022.

Naira Marley has a large fan base known as Marlians.

Naira Marley is an award-winning Nigerian artist with several nominations, as follows:

He also won the Viewers’ Choice award at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in 2020.
