Who Is Matt Turner?

Matthew Charles Turner is an American soccer goalkeeper for Nottingham Forest FC in the Premier League club. He is also part of the United States Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT).

Matt led the team to the Premier Development League (PDL) national semifinals in 2014, playing for Jersey Express SC. He is also renowned for receiving the Best Goalkeeper Award after winning the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2023 CONCACAF Nations League Finals.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Matthew was born in the United States. His father’s family is Jewish, while his mother’s family is Catholic. Matt’s paternal great-grandmother migrated from Lithuania due to the Second World War’s religious persecution. He and his father later acquired their Lithuanian passports at the same time in 2020. As a result, they had to change their last name to Turner, the English form of Turnovski.

Matt attended Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. Afterward, he enrolled at Fairfield University, where he had up to 39 appearances for the Fairfield Stags men’s soccer team. Matt eventually left with 21 shutouts.

He didn’t play soccer during his high school days. When he was 14 years old, he started the sport to keep fit for basketball and baseball. He played as a goalkeeper in place of the other goalkeeper who sustained injury at tryouts.

Matt has been married since 2022. His spouse is Ashley Herron, a former cheerleader at the National Football League (NFL). They had their first son and child, Easton, on June 29, 2022, and are currently expecting a daughter.

Career – From The Onset to Present

Matthew Turner has over 147 appearances professionally as a soccer goalkeeper. He started his soccer goalkeeping career in 2012 while attending Fairfield University in Connecticut, USA. Matt was part of the Fairfield Stags until 2015, where he had 39 appearances in soccer games.

His senior career began in 2014 with Jersey Express SC. He had 24 appearances, playing for the club until he left the following year. Matt Turner was a loan goalkeeper for Richmond Kickers from 2016 to 2017. He was able to make 27 appearances for the club. Also, Matt played for the New England Revolution for about six years (from 2016 to 2022), with up to 102 game appearances. He joined Arsenal FC that same year and left with a record of seven appearances.

Matt Turner is currently playing for Nottingham Forest Football Club. He joined the club in 2023 and has only made a few appearances. He has also been representing the United States in soccer games since 2021.
