Who Is Lasizwe Dambuza?

Lasizwe Dambuza, known as Lasizwe, is a South African social media sensation, television personality, comedian, and actor. He rose to fame for his humorous and relatable content on social media, as well as his appearances in television shows.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Lasizwe Dambuza, whose full name is Thulasizwe Siphiwe Dambuza, was born into the family of Mr. Menzi Mcunu and Mrs. Lindiwe Dambuza on July 19, 1998. He lost his mom in 2016 at age 40.

His parents gave birth to two other children, namely Khanyi Mbau, a well-known South African actress and media personality, and Zonke Nkabinde, who played a major role in making him the man he is today.

While growing up, the influencer attended Meredale Primary School, a mixed-race primary school in Meredale, south of Johannesburg. He attended Mondeor High School in Mondeor, and he stopped his education there.

Right from his second school days, his mom will take him for television auditions every week across Gauteng. When he clocked 12 and couldn’t get any auditions. His mom told him bluntly that she could no longer afford the weekly television auditions.

Career Journey to Stardom

Since he couldn’t afford the auditions. Lasizwe signed up for several radio competitions that do give out audio-visual equipment and phones as prizes. Luckily, he won a phone and started using it to create video content.

Alongside the phone, he’ll use his mom’s laptop to record and learn basic video editing. He’ll save the videos on DVD discs and watch them himself on the TV screen. Lasizwe’s hunger to be on TV led him to post those videos he created on Facebook.

The social media sensation video’s contents comprise how Africa acts on a daily basis. His first breakout video, Ek Sal Doom Jou, The skit was based on reports of a controversial pastor who sprayed the faces of his congregants with insect repellent.

The video went viral, his followers grew, and he soon became the South African boy every commercial wants to partner with. In 2017, he was featured in Babes Wodumo and Ntando Duma’s music video for the song “Jiva Phez Kom Bhide”. 

He also became the teen marketing director for Fanta. The following year, Lasizwe Dambuza launched his reality television show, @Lasizwe: Fake It Till You Make It. The show aired on MTV Africa and followed his life journey as he tried to break into the entertainment industry.

Awards and Achievements

Lasizwe Dambuza continues to climb the ladder of success, and he makes sure to give back to the community. He donated a sum of R2 million to help South African students protesting against fee hikes at that time. Also, he has bagged many awesome awards, which are as follows:

Noteworthy, Lasizwe Dambuza has also bagged many nominations for several other awards. Including the South African Hip Hop Awards and the MTV Africa Music Awards.
