David (Dave) Filipowski, his father, played basketball and football at Slippery Rock University from 1979 to 1981. Also, his mother, Rebecca (Becky) Filipowski (née Hagerdon), is a Parade All-American and star player at Warwick High School.
She played college basketball at Long Beach State from 1982–1984, reaching the Elite Eight. Kyle has a twin brother, who goes by Matthew Filipowski.
His twin brother played basketball alongside Kyle at Wilbraham & Monson Academy. Today, he’s committed to playing for Harvard University. The other siblings of Kyle include Tylor and Daniel.
Kyle Filipowski first laced up his sneakers at Minisink Valley High School in Slate Hill, New York. Before transferring to Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx after his freshman year.
Seeking even greater challenges, Filipowski moved to Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, for his junior and senior years. This move proved pivotal, as it allowed him to hone his skills against top competition and garner national attention.
Kyle Filipowski Basketball Career
His junior year saw him crowned the Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year for Massachusetts, a testament to his talent and dedication. Flip’s senior season further solidified his reputation as a blue-chip prospect.
He averaged an impressive 19.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. Furthermore, Filipowski earned a coveted spot on the 2022 Naismith National High School Boys Basketball All-America First Team.
Following his high school exploits, Filipowski was courted by several prestigious universities. He chose the iconic blue-and-white jersey of Duke University. He joined the renowned Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team under the legendary coach, Mike Krzyzewski.
Filipowski’s freshman year at Duke (2022-2023) was a whirlwind of learning and adjustment. He played alongside seasoned veterans, and under the demanding tutelage of Coach Krzyzewski, Filipowski showcased glimpses of his immense potential.
He averaged 13.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, establishing himself as a key contributor to the team’s success. With Coach K’s retirement and the arrival of Coach Jon Scheyer, Filipowski has embraced a more prominent role in his sophomore year.
Now considered the heart and soul of the Blue Devils, he is averaging 18.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Thus leading the team in scoring and rebounding. His improved shooting range and playmaking ability make him a matchup nightmare for opponents.
