Kurt Benkert is an American football player. He plays quarterback for the San Antonio Brahmas. His current number is ’13’ and his playing position is quarterback.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Kurt Benkert was born on July 17, 1995, in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S. He attended Cape Coral High School in Cape Coral, Florida. After his junior year, he moved to Island Coast High School, Florida.

In his senior year in high school, he passed for 2,261 yards with 20 touchdowns. He went on to play College football at East Carolina University.

On July 2, 2016, Kurt Benkert married Samantha Morreal and they have a daughter together.

College Career

In 2013, Kurt Benkert gained admission into East Carolina University, where he took part in College football.

As a freshman, he was placed on redshirt. The following year, he appeared in three regular season games.

Before the commencement of the 2015 season, he was named East Carolina’s starting quarterback. Shortly after, he suffered a torn ACL.

In 2016, he transferred to the University of Virginia. Immediately after, he got in, he was named the starting quarterback.

That same year, he recorded 228 of 406 passes for 2,552 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

In 2017, during his senior year, he broke the school record for passing yards in a game with 455.

Professional Career 

Atlanta Falcons

On May 1, 2018, the Atlanta Falcons signed Kurt Benkert as an undrafted free agent. Four months later, he was waived and on September 2, 2018, he was signed to the team’s practice squad.

On December 31, 2018, he was placed on the future reserve list and in August 2019, he was moved to the injured reserve.

After he got off injured reserve, he was signed to the team’s practice squad on September 6, 2020.

He was promoted to the active roster in week 11 of the regular season’s game, for their match against New Orleans Saints.

After the match, he was returned to the practice roster. On January 4, 2021, Kurt signed a reserve contract with the Atlanta Falcons, but the following month, he was released.

Green Bay Packers

Kurt signed with the Packers on May 17, 2021, and in August they released him as part of their final roster cuts.

Kurt signed a reserve contract with the Packers on January 25, 2022, five months later, he was waived by the team.

San Francisco 49ers

He joined the San Francisco 49ers practice squad on September 20, 2022. 

He was released on October 12 but re-signed to the team’s practice squad on October 18, 2022.

On November 15, 2022, he was released from the team again.

San Antonio Brahmas

On December 12, 2022, the Exclusive Football League signed Kurt Benkert to play for the Houston Roughnecks. On April 4, he was placed on the team’s reserve list.
