Who Is Khalil Halilu?

Khalil Halilu is a young and dynamic entrepreneur who is making a real difference in Nigeria. He’s one of the youngest CEOs in the history of NASENI.

Khalil is known for his innovative and entrepreneurial approach to leadership. He’s currently the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). The current president of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, gave him the appointment on September 1, 2023.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Khalil Halilu’s full name is Khalil Suleiman Halilu, and he’s fondly called KSH. He was born October 29, 1990, in Kano State, Nigeria. He’ll be 33 years old in a few weeks.

Khalil attended Rainbow Primary School, Kano, in 1996 and proceeded to St. Thomas Catholic School, Kano, for his secondary education. He finished in 2006.

He then went to the University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009. The following year, 2010, he bagged a master’s degree in international business.

His entrepreneurial skills started when he was growing up, for he started providing the people around him with ice. It was an important need due to the hot weather in Kano. He used his spare pocket money to purchase a refrigerator to supply people with ice.

While in secondary school, the business mogul would download the latest music tracks, then burn them into CDs. He usually sells those CDs to his classmates. Also, while in university, he led his team to create a gaming center, which attracted many customers.

Career and Rise to Fame

After graduating from university, Halilu began his career as an administrative assistant at Archimonde & Associates. He then moved on to work as a marketing manager at Gongoni Company Limited, his family business.

Soon enough, KSH realized he wanted something different. With the support of Bashir, the duo soon relocated to Abuja, where they started a block-producing company. Thus, they founded KSH Construction & Design Ltd. in 2014.

Khalil Halilu continued to progress, and in 2018, OyaOya Strategic Services Ltd. and ShapShap Logistics Ltd. came into existence. Oya Oya is designed to connect commodity traders in a fast and efficient ecosystem.

ShapShap connects clients and drivers with flexible route options and insurance coverage for transported goods. Shortly after, he launched Zabe.

Zabe is an election monitoring app that provides detailed feedback on the election process. The following year, Khalil Halilu founded CANs. He described it as the “first-ever” eco-friendly technological hub in West Africa.

Khalil Halilu is a member of the board of directors of several companies. This includes Africa Infotech Consultancy and JIGS Environmental Services & Agro-Allied Ltd. Also, he is a member of the Global Shapers Community of the World Economic Forum.

On September 1, 2023, the Nigerian president, Bola Ahmed Tinibu, appointed KSH as the EVC and CEO of NASENI. NASENI is a government agency responsible for developing and promoting science and engineering infrastructure in Nigeria. Halilu is committed to using his position at NASENI to accelerate the development of Nigeria’s technological capabilities.
