Who Is Jide Kosoko?

Prince Babajide Kosoko, popularly known as Jide Kosoko, is a renowned actor, producer, and director in the Nigerian film industry. He is famous for his roles in Nollywood English and Yoruba movies, including Wale Adenuga Productions’ popular TV drama, Super Story.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Prince Jide Kosoko, just as his name’s title implies, is a prince from the Kosoko royal family of Lagos Island. He grew up in Ebute Metta, Lagos, where he graduated from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, majoring in Business Administration.

You might be thinking he currently has a spouse, but you’re wrong. Jide Kosoko has been married three times consecutively, but all of his wives are dead, making him a widower. He reportedly has more than six children and several grandchildren from his late wives: Sherifat, Henrietta, and Karimat.

Most of his children are also well-known actors in the Nollywood industry. These include Sola, Bidemi, and Temilade Kosoko.


Prince Jide Kosoko started acting when he was a child in 1964, starring in the tele-movie, “Makanjuola” as Alabi. He was inspired by the enormous success of Hubert Ogunde, the founder of Nigeria’s first contemporary theatrical company.

Jide received an invitation from him to audition for an acting role. Afterward, he worked with the Awada Kerikeri Group alongside Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Lanre Hassan (Aka Ogogo), and Sunday Omobolanle (Aka Aluwe).

He created his own theatre troupe, Jide Kosoko Theatre Company, in 1972. Since Prince Jide started acting, he has featured and produced many films, including Asiri Nla, Ti Oluwa Nile Part 2, and Asewo To Re Mecca.

Prince Jide Kosoko has represented many popular brands as their ambassador. These include Chivita, MeritAbode Limited, and Western Lotto.

Jide Kosoko has been nominated for numerous awards, including as the Outstanding Male Actor at Abuja International Film Festival 2021. He was recognized for his role in Love Castle, a 2021 Nigerian movie directed by Desmond Elliot.
