Milan was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He was born on February 20, 1996. His parents are Willie Long and Melissa Milan. Milan has two sisters.

He attended St. Ignatius College Prep, where he was a standout football player. They named him to the all-state football team as a senior.


After college in 2014, Milan signed with the University of Illinois. Here, he played in all 12 games as a freshman, recording 22 tackles and one sack.

In 2015, Jamal became a full-time starter and finished the season with 69 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. As a result, he earned the All-Big Ten Conference Second Team.

Milan continued to improve in his junior season, recording 75 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks. They named him to the All-Big Ten Conference First Team. Also, they named him after the Pro Football Focus All-American Third Team.

Milan entered the 2017 NFL Draft as a projected late-round pick. However, he went undrafted. Jamal Milan signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. The Jets waived him during training camp.

Milan spent the next two seasons playing in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018 and the Edmonton Eskimos in 2019. The Eskimos released him in May 2020.

Jamal Milan suffered a severe knee injury in 2019 while playing for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The injury was a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus.

He had to undergo surgery to repair the damage. As such, he had to take a long break from football. Thankfully, he was able to bounce back really quickly and continues to perform well.

After recovering, the Michigan Panthers selected him again in the third round of the 2021 USFL Draft. He played in all eight games for the Panthers in 2022, recording 26 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.

In 2023, Jamal Milan had a great start in the USFL season. He is currently leading the league in sacks with 5.5. Also, he’s second in the league in tackles for loss with 8.5.
