Who is Ishmael Hyman?

Ishmael Hyman is an American football player who holds the wide receiver position. He stands at 6’ 0” and weighs 196 pounds. Since he started his football career professionally in 2019, he has played for several teams as a wide receiver, both offseason and as a practice squad member.

These include Orlando Apollos, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, Michigan Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Michigan Panthers, and Pittsburgh Maulers.

Ishmael is well-known for his achievement as one of the 2016 FCS National champions, having participated in the NCAA Division I Football Championship while attending JMU.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Ishmael Hyman was born in Manalapan Township, New Jersey, USA, on August 23, 1995.

He grew up in Manalapan, NJ, where he played football and ran track while attending St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel. He rushed for 428 yards and four touchdowns during his senior years but ended the season with an injury.

Ishmael then enrolled at the University of Kansas in 2013, where he started his collegiate career with the Kansas Jayhawks. He then transferred to James Madison University, which he attended from 2014 to 2017 and was part of the James Madison Dukes.

Career

Ishmael Hyman was undrafted in 2018 but soon got an offer from Orlando Apollos. He caught four passes for 60 yards before the Alliance of American Football (AAF) ceased to exist.

Cleveland Browns signed him on April 25, 2019, and waived him during final roster cuts on August 31.

On September 24, 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team signed Ishmael into their practice squad but subsequently released him. He was re-signed into the team on the following month on October 16 and added to their active players’ roster on December 10. His debut NFL game was against the Detroit Lions on December 15, 2019, in which the Buccaneers won 38–17 and he caught one pass for three yards.

On December 24, 2019, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived him again and re-signed him into their practice squad. The season, however, ended with Ishmael recording two receptions for 34 yards.

On January 2, 2020, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Carolina Panthers. He was waived about eight months later on September 5. The team signed him into their practice squad the next day, September 6.

He signed another reserve/future contract with the team the following year on January 4, 2021, and eventually got waived on August 28, 2021.

On May 10, 2022, the Michigan Panthers football team signed Ishmael and added him to their inactive players’ roster two days later on May 12.

On July 28, he joined Green Bay Packers but was waived due to an injury on August 30. He was subsequently considered an injured reserve and released on September 9, 2022.

The Michigan Panthers re-signed him the following year on January 19, 2023. They waived him after a few months in May.

Pittsburgh Maulers signed Ishmael Hyman that same month on May 25. Shortly after, the team folded due to USFL and XFL’s merger to form the UFL.
