Elijah Pepper was born in Shepparton, Australia, on June 27, 2001. Pepper’s family lineage is deeply intertwined with basketball. 

His father, Darren, played professionally in Australia and Europe, while his uncle, Brett, also carved his path in basketball. It was only natural that Elijah would inherit their passion and talent. Thereby, he started his basketball journey at a young age.

At eight, the Atheltic family relocated to Selah, Washington. He honed his skills playing for Selah High School.

Elijah Pepper’s talent quickly became evident, earning him several honors. This includes First-Team All-League honors and the Central Washington Player of the Year award in his senior year.

He averaged an impressive 25.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. As well as leading his team to a 20-5 record and the district championship.


Elijah Pepper’s high school success attracted the attention of several college programs. Similar to other outstanding basketball players, Elijah received offers from several prestigious universities, like Gonzaga, UC Davis, and Arizona State. He chose to attend UC Davis in the end.

Elijah’s exceptional skills and impact were immediate, as he became a key contributor to the Aggies’ success. He quickly climbed the scoring charts. He averaged 15.0 points per game in his freshman year and earned Big West Freshman of the Year honors.

Elijah Pepper’s sophomore season was truly remarkable. He averaged a staggering 22.8 points per game, breaking the UC Davis single-season scoring record. As well as becoming the first Aggie player to score over 600 points in a season.


Elijah led the Big West Conference in scoring and earned First-Team All-Conference honors. His outstanding performance in his first two seasons cemented his place as one of the best players in the Big West Conference.

The fast-rising star finished his junior year as the all-time leading scorer in UC Davis history. This surpasses the previous record held for over 40 years.

Earlier this year, in April, Elijah declared for the NBA draft. However, he ultimately withdrew and returned to UC Davis for his senior season. The Aggie fans and coaches couldn’t contain their excitement because this meant they have one more year with their star player.

Elijah Pepper is widely considered one of the top prospects for the 2024 NBA draft. His exceptional scoring ability, athleticism, and leadership qualities make him a highly coveted player. Several NBA teams have expressed interest in him, and he is projected to be a first-round pick.
