Who Is Efa Iwara?

Efaobasi Ubi Iwara is one of the fast-rising actors in the Nollywood industry. He entered the entertainment industry as a rapper and hip hop musician. Efa has endeared many Nigerians with his acting skills, especially as one of the playboys in the series ‘The Men’s Club and as a lover boy in ‘This Lady Called Life.’

Efa has won several nominations, and we still look forward to seeing more of him on our screens.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Efa Iwara is an indigene of Ugep in Cross River State, Nigeria. He was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, on August 20, 1990. While his father, Professor Alexander Iwara, has been a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Ibadan (UI) since 1971, his mother, Felicia, is a librarian at UI.

He has four siblings, consisting of three sisters (Ayei Ogwo, Kapoona Iwara, and Jeesam Iwara) and an older brother, Kebee Iwara. Kebee is into photography, movie, and music production. He is said to have had a significant influence on Efa’s life while growing up, which made him go into music.

As a child of two academicians, all levels of his academic life were spent within the university walls. His primary school was at UI Staff School, Ibadan, while he completed his secondary education at the International School, Barth Road, Ibadan.

He obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Geography, University of Ibadan. 

Music Career

In 2006, Efa started his music career professionally when he and some friends, DJ Clem, Bolaji, Jide, and Boye, created a music group ‘X-Factor’. Further in his music career, he released eight singles, some of which include; Enigma, Open and Close (featuring Dammy Krane), and Sunmobi (featuring Olamide).

He has also been featured in the track of other Nigerian artists like Mo’Cheddah, Phenom, Ex-O, D-Tunes, and DJ Tony Blaze.

In 2020, he released his album ‘Without a Pulse,’ which happens to be his last in music.

Movie Career

Efa’s first acting experience was in primary school at a stage play of ‘The Gods Are Not to Blame’ by Ola Rotimi. Professionally, he made his acting debut in 2011 in one of the episodes of the TV series ‘Tinsel.’ 

His music career was still budding, so his next acting appearance was at MTV Shuga Naija, season one, in 2013. He didn’t appear in movies until 2016, when he resurfaced on Life 101 for Ebonylife TV. Afterward, he acted as ‘Epe’ in ‘Ajoche,’ the 2018 Africa Magic Series.

That marked the beginning of his rise to fame. Since then, he has played roles in Series like The Men’s Club, Corper Shuns, ‘King of Boys: The Return of the King’ (one of Nigeria highest grossing movies in 2021), Ricordi, Diiche, and ‘Rumor has it’ which happens to be one of his game changers where he acted as a jilted lover with psychopathic tendencies. 

He featured in award-winning movies like ‘This Lady Called Life’ where he acted as ‘Obinna,’ and ‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’ and other star-studded Nollywood movies like A Naija Christmas, Isoken, The Sessions, Finding Hubby, The Eve, Put a ring on it and ‘Seven’ for which he received his first nomination as the ‘best actor in a drama’ for an Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA).
