Who Is Chimezie Imo?

Brian Emmanuel Chimezie Imo, popularly known as Chimezie Imo, is a Nollywood actor who started his career while still in school. His professional acting career began in 2014, after participating in the ‘Next Movie Star’ reality show in 2014.

He came to the limelight when he played ‘Shina’ in the MTV series Shuga. Since then, he has starred in many movies and TV series.

His hobbies include reading and watching TV shows, movies, and comedy.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Chimezie Imo is an indigene of Orsu, Imo state Nigeria. He completed his primary and secondary education in Abuja at Jabi Primary School, Government Secondary School Gwarinpa, and Government Science Secondary School Pyakasa, respectively.

In 2017, he graduated from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Ecology.


Chimezie’s zeal for acting began when he was given the role of a substitute actor in a church drama while the leading actor was absent. He went on stage without rehearsing, and his acting made his audience emotional and sober. Hence, he realized acting was his thing.

In 2014, he participated in the ‘Next Movie Star’ reality show. He was still at the university then, so he had to travel from Bauchi to Abuja for his audition. Chimezie was selected and was part of those in the Lagos house.

He was trained to be an actor within a month, along with other contestants from Africa. He emerged as the first runner-up after the training.

That same year, he got his first role as a professional actor in the movie ‘Learning Curve,’ where he starred alongside Jim Iyke, Chuks Chyke, and Ivie Okujaye.

In 2019, Chimezie got a lead role as ‘Nimbe,’ a drug addicted youngster in the movie Nimbe. His role earned him his first nomination as the Best Actor for the Future Awards Price for Acting 2020 and the Most Promising Young Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards 2020.

Since then, he has been featured in many other movies and TV series, including The Anomalous, The Trade, One Too Many, Choke, Sistá, The Blood Covenant, What Happened At St James, About a Boy, and The Olive.

He has also starred alongside elite Nollywood actors like Deyemi Okanlawon, Kate Henshaw, and Nse Ikpe Etim in the faith-based movie ‘The Wait’.

Chimezie Imo is also famous for his role as young Folarin in the movie ‘Sistá’ in which he featured alongside Kehinde Bankole, Bisola Aiyeola, and Tope Olowoniyan.

He was recently cast as ‘Young Ekene’ in the 2023 movie ‘The Anomalous.’
