Alphonse Francis Areola is a French footballer for West Ham United FC in the Premier League. He plays as a goalkeeper, wearing a jersey with the #23.

Personal Life (Early/recent)

Alphonse Areola was born in France, on February 27, 1993, even though his parents are of Filipino heritage. He was bred in the suburbs of Paris. His parents, Heidi and Cleto moved to France from the Philippines in the late 1980s.

He joined the Little Angels Sports Club at age six and started playing football as a left-back.

Areola attended PSG Academy. He has been married to Marrion Valette Areola, social media influencer, a tennis and a fitness enthusiast, since 2014. They have three daughters together: Ayleen (2015), Aymma-Lyse (2017), and Ayva-May (2020).


Areola’s youth career started in 1999, with Petits Anges. He was part of the team until 2006, when he joined Paris Saint-Germain Academy. Alphonse Areola left the PSG youth team in 2012. He also trained for football at the INF Clairefontaine from 2006 to 2009.

As regards his senior career, Areola started playing for PSG Academy professional team in 2010. He appeared in 57 football matches, before leaving in 2013.

That same year, Areola joined PSG FC, where he appeared in 75 games, and left for West Ham United in 2022. He currently plays for the club, and has made appearances in more than 11 football matches.

Alphonse Areola has also featured in several football games as a loan player.

  • 2014–2015 – Sporting Club Bastia (with 35 appearances)

  • 2020–2021 – Fulham FC (with 36 appearances)
  • 2021–2022 – West Ham United FC (a single game appearance, and was subsequently signed in as a goalkeeper)

Besides, Areola has been representing France in men’s football internationally since 2008. These include France U-16 (2008–2009), France U-17 (2009–2010), France U-18 (2010–2011), France U-19 (2011–2012), France U-20 (2012–2013), and France U-21 (2013–2014).

He has also appeared in more than five games for France men’s national football team, and still represents his country since 2018.
