Who Is Akin Lewis?
Akin Lewis is a veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker known for acting in both English and Yoruba movies. He rose to stardom for his acting role in Why Worry, a Nigerian 1980-sitcom aired on NTA Ibadan. Akin Lewis became more famous for his role as Emeka in another sitcom named Koko Close.
Personal Life (Early/recent)
Akin Lewis was reportedly born on April 7, 1957, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. He was raised in Zaria, Kaduna State, and is the only son of his parents. They worked as civil servants until their retirements.
He completed his primary and secondary schooling in Lagos. Afterward, he attended Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, when it was the University of Ife. Upon his graduation, he pursued a Master’s degree in Dramatic Arts at Sofia University, Bulgaria, on a scholarship.
Akin Lewis is currently married to a woman whose identity is not known to the public. He had two failed marriages before he met her, and we can’t tell whether he had children from his past wives or not.
Akin Lewis joined a drama group led by Prof Bode Sowande, a Nigerian dramatist and writer, in 1973. He also started acting that same year.
Since then, he has starred in many English and Yoruba Nollywood movies. His notable works include Borokini, Heroes and Zeroes (2010), Madam Dearest, Silver Lining (2012), Hotel Majestic, and Were Alaso.
He won the Best Actor award in 1982 for his role in Madam Dearest, a 2005 Nollywood movie produced by Tade Ogidan.
Akin Lewis also received the Best Actor award from Audio Visual Awards (TAVA) in October 2010.
