Who Is Adesuwa Etomi?
Tolulope Adesua Etomi-Wellington, popularly known as Adesuwa Etomi, is a Nollywood actress and a fitness enthusiast.
She began her career with stage plays and she has over 15 stage play roles under her belt, even before she became popular in 2014.
She came into the limelight after her role as Debbie in ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’. Since then she has played the main character in over 20 films some of which includes, Ayamma: Music in the Desert, King of Boys, The Wedding Party, Falling and Gangs of Lagos.
Adesuwa is also a fitness enthusiast. She posts pictures and videos of herself working out at the gym on Instagram.
Personal Life (Early/recent)
Adesuwa Etomi is the last of three children born to Mr and Mrs Etomi on February 22, 1988 in Owerri, Imo State. She is an indigene of Esan tribe in Edo State.
Her father was a military man, while her mother Eniiwaju Etomi was an engineer and her mum also pastored at the UK’s Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Coventry.
She has two older siblings, Tosin and Temitayo Etomi. Her brother Tosin is a Ph.D holder with six other degree, while her sister, Temitayo is an entrepreneur and a legal practitioner
The name of her Primary School is Corona school, Victoria Island. For her secondary education, she attended Queens College, Yaba Lagos for some years before moving to City College Coventry, England to obtain a diploma in physical theater, musical theater and performing arts.
She went on to study Drama and performance at the University of Wolverhampton, where she graduated with first class honors.
Adesuwa Etomi got married to Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) in November 2017. Four years later, they welcomed their first child, Hazaiah Wellington.
Adesuwa began her acting career as a stage actress in 2004. At first, she acted for City College Productions while she studied at City College Coventry, then she went on to work at Arena Theater.
She featured in ‘The Miller’s Tale’ that was displayed at Saga Tiata – Edinburgh Fringe Festival and ‘Anatomy of a Woman’ shown at Lagos Theater Festival.
Her debut as an onscreen actress was in the movie ‘The Call’, where she played Tara.
Her first lead role was in the popular 2014 movie ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’.
That same year, she had her first role in a television series as Sharon in the second season of Gidi Up. Since then she has featured in few television and web series like Las Gidi, Crazy Lovely Cool, Shuga and Far From Home.
Another movie that made her famous is ‘The Wedding Party’. In the movie, she played ‘Dunni’ along with Richard Mofe-Damijo, Sola Sobowale and Banky Wellington.
In 2019, she was the main character in three award winning movies. She played Chike in ‘The Set Up’, Muna in ‘Muna’ and Susie Sugar in ‘Sugar Rush’.
Since 2015 till 2023, Adesuwa has been a cast member of the MTV edutainment series ‘Shuga’.
Her latest role was in ‘Gang of Lagos’, the first Amazon Original Movie from Africa. In the movie, she played ‘Gift’ alongside Tobi Bakre, Chike, Bimbo Ademoye and Chioma Akpotha.
She has 5.6 million followers on Instagram, with whom she shares updates of her latest role, personal pictures and videos of herself at the gymnasium.
